Nicholtown is a 390-acre neighborhood in Greenville, South Carolina, located approximately 1.5 miles from the downtown core. Originally subdivided in the 1870s, the community’s early population included newly freed enslaved people who established a self-sustaining residential area. The contemporary housing stock consists of a mix of single-family structures and multi-family units. This includes renovated mid-20th-century bungalows and ranch homes, 1970s-era apartment buildings, and newer construction. Following municipal and federal revitalization grants in 2005, developers built additional Craftsman-style single-family homes, Colonial-style houses, and townhomes. For outdoor recreation, residents have access to Green Forest Park and the adjacent Cleveland Park, which features the Greenville Zoo, the Rock Quarry Garden, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
